| Kindling Words is a retreat and colony for professionals in the field of children's books. Writers and illustrators, editors and art directors gather in snowy Silver Bay, New York to celebrate the notion that "childrens books should be the very best books there are." |

My Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators critique group began meeting back in 1988. At the time a couple of us had published magazine pieces. None of us had sold a book manuscript.
Since then we've laughed together, cried together, shared our frustrations and our celebrations together. By working hard as individuals and sharing what we learned with one another, we all developed as writers and artists. Today our group are the proud parents and godparents of almost published 100 books. I firmly believe finding a good critique group is the best thing a writer can do for her career.
